Mint Museum of Charlotte
I have recently visited the Mint and was amazed at their collection. We have access to such amazing artwork closer than you think! On the museum's website, they have tons of resources for teachers and students. They create "traveling trunks" for teacher and students prior to visiting the museum. You can also look at images of their current exhibits and this is another great way to get the students ready for the museum trip.
Columbia Museum of Art
This is another museum that is really close to us. The museum's site includes teaching kits based on current exhibitions. They also list and describe ideas of activities you and your students can do in the museum based on grade levels. Both of these are helpful to teachers and integrating the gallery into the classroom.
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
This museum's cite offers activities/games that teachers and students can do during their museum visit. These scavenger hunts are a great way for students to look more in depth within the works. The cite also has links to teacher workshops that they have done and offer. These are great learning experiences for teachers no matter how much experience.
Museum of Modern Art
You cannot forget the MoMA in your museum links! When going to their K-12 teacher resources you will learn about MoMA learning that takes you on a "tour" through the museum and touching on several different movements of art. This is something I would use in my classroom and encourage my students to look through outside of class. The MoMA also offers great teaching kits on their site too!
Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art
This museum specializes in Contemporary Art which is the focus of this class. Since we now have all gained knowledge on the Contemporary art movement, this museum's site is a great way to introduce it to your students. The cite provides lesson plans on artists, themes, and grade level. This is a great site to go to when looking for a new contemporary artist to learn/teach about.
